Ali, who won the US version of the show in 2008, which was shown in Australia on Foxtel’s Lifestyle You, tearfully revealed in an episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now? that she was having a massage last year when her masseuse attacked her.  ‘I was getting a massage and I fell asleep, as I often do in massages. I felt so safe in this place, I had no guard up. And I woke up to – I woke up to someone feeling in my vagina,’ she recalled.

‘I was just like in shock. Like, what’s going on? What’s happening? And then I just jumped up and I ran out and just hid. I was sitting there in a ball, and I was just shaking. I don’t know how to explain it, but I just was so afraid. I was scared.’

Adding to the horror of the situation, she says the manager of the massage business she was visiting downplayed the incident. Without any resolution, the trauma of what she endured then played on her mind and health over the following months, with one impact being that she regained all of the 51kg she lost on the show.

‘I haven’t talked about [the assault] because it’s not something you just talk about,’ she explained. ‘I’ve realised, over the last year, as I’ve gained this weight… that a lot of stuff came up that I just hadn’t dealt with.’
