ABC breakfast overtakes Today show in ratings shock

Things have gone from bad to worse for the Today show.

On Wednesday ABC Breakfast drew more viewers than the Today show for the first time ever.

ABC’s morning show attracted 265,000 viewers from across Australia, which put it 1,000 ahead of the Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight-led Today show.

The Today show shakeup began in December when Karl Stefanovic was replaced with Deborah Knight. Sports reporter Tim Gilbert was replaced by Tony Jones, while Tom Steinfort was brought in to take over newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys’ role. Triple J journalist Brooke Boney also joined the show as the new entertainment reporter.
