Striding across a Sydney beach with a big smile and a beach body women half her age would kill for, Princess Mary looked on top of the world.
The mum-of-four has always been blessed with a killer body and natural beauty, but hitting the sand with husband Fred and their children – Christian, 12, Isabella, 10, and six-year-old twins Vincent and Josephine – during their Aussie Christmas break last week, the 45-year-old Aussie princess was looking hotter than ever.
Says an onlooker: ‘Mary looked better than most of the 20-year-olds on the beach – everyone was doing a double take, she looked amazing!’
Now, for the first time, New Idea can reveal the easy diet secret behind Mary’s amazing physique and looks – an it’s something any busy mum can do!
Sources say the royal has recently converted to the keto diet, the hottest new weight- loss phenomenon sweeping the world, and it’s already had amazing results.
The keto diet is a low- carb, high-fat eating plan that advocates claim turns your body into a ‘fat-burning machine’. It’s become a fast favourite with celebrities in 2017 – including Gwyneth Paltrow, Kim Kardashian West and now Mary.
‘Mary is really committed to being in the best shape she can be – no matter her age,’ says a source close to the princess. ‘While she’s always been active, she’s been feeling a little sluggish of late. As a result of taking on more royal duties – with Prince Henrik stepping down from palace duty given his poor health – and running around after four kids, Mary started eating erratically and felt she needed to get her diet back in order.
‘That’s when she discovered keto – and it’s worked wonders.’
Keto works by drastically reducing your carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat, putting your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. The diet claims to result in significant weight loss, but also improved mental focus, blood pressure and strength.
‘On a ketogenic diet your entire body switches its fuel supply to run almost entirely on fat,’ one expert tells. ‘It becomes easy to access your fat stores to burn them off.’
Mary has long been an advocate for exercise, with her sister-in-law Leanne Donaldson revealing: ‘Mary, like the rest of her family, is totally dedicated to exercise. She’s always walking, jogging, or riding a horse.’
Her new keto diet includes regular portions of nuts, salmon and greens, avoiding heavy carbs. ‘This is really working for Mary,’ says a source. ‘She might have four kids, but she’s in the best shape of her life despite being a really busy, time-poor mum. It’s amazing.’
