Archie’s recent christening was the perfect opportunity for the royals to show off their firstborn son, however Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle instead kept the event private – leading to criticism from some royal fans.
According to Express.co.uk, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will put their son Archie first in their mission to keep him safe and happy, with Harry saying he doesn’t want Archie to experience “life in a goldfish bowl” in the same way that he did.
“With the exception of his time in the forces Harry has lived his entire life in the goldfish bowl of public scrutiny,” an insider told the publication.
“And, although he recognises his duty, he is fiercely determined to protect his newborn from the glare of public opinion which he has had to bear – which became especially oppressive when he lost his mother Diana,” they said.
Prince Harry is adamant his son won’t be subjected to the same intrusions he’s had throughout his life, says the publication.
“Harry and William had to go through that unbearable grief not in private but before the eyes – and camera lenses – of the entire world. He was just a kid and he hated it,” the insider added.
Harry and Meghan have both experienced life in the spotlight, and would prefer their son not to have to deal with that pressure.
“Harry is fiercely protective of Archie and has promised him he will never have to go through that. Of course Meghan, who has lived a large part of her life in front of cameras, agrees wholeheartedly.
“He’ll basically protect Archie with his life,” the royal insider told Express.co.uk.
The public have been treated to just glimpses of Archie since he was born on May 6.
Meghan and Harry proudly showed off their new baby to awaiting media a couple of days after his birth, and since then have shared photographs to Instagram, plus the latest two images from his July 6 christening.
The insider added: “Harry knew he would get it in the neck for not inviting the cameras in but he put Archie first – what father wouldn’t?
“And those people having a go at him should step off an consider for a second what they would do if it was their kid.
“Harry has pulled on a uniform and served his country, he’s an outstanding diplomat for Great Britain and he has sacrificed a normal private life to do so. He just wants the best for Archie.”
With the Duke and Duchess also under fire for excessive spending on their Frogmore Cottage home, this new demand for privacy could, however, be one one step too far for the British public to take.
