Kate Middleton celebrated her 38th birthday on Thursday, however the happy event was overshadowed by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s announcement on Wednesday that they would be leaving their senior royal roles.

To seemingly rub salt in the wound of them walking out on the royal family, Meghan and Harry snubbed Kate as they decided not to post a birthday message to her on their Sussex Royal Instagram account.

Instead, they added their well wishes underneath a photograph of Kate that was posted on the Kensington Palace Instagram account.

“Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Cambridge today,” they wrote.

Their comment included a birthday cake and red heart emoji.

While some Instagram users just appreciated the message dedicated to Kate, others expressed their disappointment at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

One commented on the content of their comment, saying: “You seem to have forgotten to add HRH.

“You make it a point to add it when you refer to H&M.

“Please learn to give the same due respect to other members of the RF.”

Other disappointed fans referred to the statement published by Meghan and Harry on Wednesday evening, announcing their intention to step back as senior royals.

A royal fan wrote: “You’ve certainly made it one she won’t forget.”

Kate was seen arriving at Kensington Palace looking stoney-faced in the wake of the announcement by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Royal author Phil Dampier told Fabulous Digital that Kate’s special day was undoubtedly ruined by Meghan and Harry’s news.

“Apart from anything else Harry and Meghan’s announcement has overshadowed Kate’s 38th birthday.

“It’s just another example how far the so-called Fab Four have drifted apart and I doubt Harry and Meghan will be at any celebrations for Kate.

“It’s a sad day for the monarchy that these two brothers and their wives, who had the potential to be such a positive force are now in this position,” he told the publication.
