A video has surfaced of a Disney employee fighting off an alligator, barely a metre away from guests riding Splash Mountain.

The video comes just days after 2-year-old Lane Graves was attacked and killed by an alligator at Orlando’s Disney World.

The footage, which was obtained by Inside Edition, shows a Disney employee wielding a pool stick to deter an alligator near guests on the popular Splash Mountain ride. The alligator appears quite determined to leave the water. It is reported that the incident occurred in 2009.

It has since been reported that Disney World ignored warnings that guests have been feeding the alligators in the park.

A former Disney employee told TheWrap.com “Disney has known about the problem of guests feeding the alligators”. The same employee also said he recommended a fence to protect the guests, but his suggestion was not taken any further.

The video also shows the luxurious accommodation and lagoon where the Graves family tragically lost their 2-year-old son after an alligator attacked him and dragged him in the water.

At the time of the tragedy, signs around the lagoons and lakes at the resort simply read “No Swimming Allowed, Thank You.” However officials at Disney World have since reviewed the signs and installed new, clearer versions.
