She’s the toddler whose name has influenced parents all over the globe.
Princess Charlotte may be only two years old but her name has shot to the top of the list of most popular baby names.
Charlotte is officially the most popular girls’ name in every state of Australia except New South Wales, where Olivia pips it at the post.
Oliver is the most popular boys’ name in all states except for WA and NT, where Jack is the favourite, and ACT, where William tops the list.
The top 10 girls’ names are Charlotte, Olivia, Mia, Ava, Amelia, Isla, Sophia/Sofia, Chloe, Grace and Emily.
Meanwhile the boys’ list reads as follows – Oliver, William, Jack, Noah, James, Thomas, Ethan, Lucas, Jackson/Jaxon/Jaxson and Lachlan.
The research from McCrindle found the once popular Jessica is now at number 75 after being the most popular girls’ name for 16 years out of 18 tom 1984 to 2001.
The researchers also found that “flowery” names including Ivy, Willow, Violet, Poppy, Daisy, Lily and Jasmine also feature in the top 100.
In terms of trending names, Leo, Hudson, Archer and George have all soared up the list in the past five years while for girls Isla, Evie, Harper and Evelyn have done the same.
Incidentally, Liam, Harry and Louis all feature in the top 100 suggesting the enduring appeal of a certain boy band.
