'I may be 22 but I'm not stupid'.

Holly Maitland is pregnant with her third baby in three years and is fighting for the right to have her tubes tied.

But the young mum is being denied tubal litigation surgery by doctors even though she has become pregnant three times while taking the contraceptive pill.

Holly has started a petition urging the government to allow women to make their own decision after doctors told her she was too young.

‘I’m a young mum of two children. My children are two and one and all pregnancies are results of failed contraception,’ says Holly.

She was denied the surgery earlier this month and her husband Jon, 30, was also refused a vasectomy because of her age. ‘Why shouldn’t WE be allowed to make them decisions for ourselves?! Why is our health and medical choices in the hands of people we don’t know.’

Holly says doctors have criticised her for not taking her pill properly but she’s explained that she keeps the box of pills sitting on her phone so that she remembers to take it at the same time every day before she’s even touched her phone.

‘I think they’re discriminating because of my age. I may be 22 but I’m not stupid.’
