He has a rare blood disorder that has meant repeated visits to hospital over the past decade. Now Gidon Goodman is campaigning against “exploitation” of suffering families.
The 13-year-old, who has Gaucher’s disease, says his family has spent over $10,000 on parking during his ten years of treatment at Sydney Children’s Hospital.
His petition has been flooded with comments from parents who are equally fed up with paying exorbitant parking fees.
Campaigning through Change.Org, Gidon wrote how unregulated parking was hurting the vulnerable with some parents choosing between visiting their sick children or having a meal.
‘This parking rate appears to be unregulated and costs the most vulnerable in society thousands to receive healthcare that is supposedly “free”,’ he wrote.
The teenager also appeared on The Project.
‘Many families simply can not afford to be late for life saving treatment and can not find time to look for free parking in an extremely populated urban area situated right next to an university,’ he continued.
