Is this sweatshirt slogan offensive?

Shoppers slam Best&Less for sexist kids' clothing

A sweatshirt branded with a sexually-charged movie slogan has been slammed as “offensive” and “inappropriate” by shoppers at kidswear retailer Best&Less.

Shoppers have taken to the store’s Facebook page to complain about the purple sweatshirt printed with “Love You Long Time’ around the picture of a daschund.

“Who on earth thought this slogan would be appropriate for a little girl’s jumper. My 5yr old loves sausage dogs and wanted me to buy this for her,” wrote one shopper.

The phrase, which comes from the 1987 movie Full Metal Jacket, is from a scene where a Vietnamese woman proposes sex with two American soldiers. “Me love you long time,” she says.

Best&Less has responded by saying it did not wish to upset customers. “The design and slogan on this jumper is simply drawing from current fashion trends and is in no way linked to something more sinister.” They say they are simply playing on the word “long” and will not remove the item from the shelves.

In other comments, shoppers have expressed concern over some of the boys’ items including jumpers branded with “I’m only here for the ladies”, “Ladiesman” and “Hide your daughters”.

One shopper wrote: “Really Best and Less? I thought you could do better than labelling toddler boys with this!”
