The big sister of Riley Hughes who died last year from whooping cough has asked her parents whether her new little sister is also going to die.
Little Olivia Hughes’s heartbreaking question shows the trauma the little girl has suffered following the death of her baby brother who died last March.
Greg and Catherine Hughes have revealed that Olivia feared she would lose her new sister Lucy. She asked her mother: ‘Is Lucy going to die like Riley?’
Catherine also revealed that Olivia has asked: ‘Can we keep her forever.’
Catherine said Olivia’s comments show she understands what happened to her brother.
And Lucy’s birth has been bittersweet for the family. Says Catherine: ‘Sometimes I stare at her and feel guilty that she’s alive and Riley isn’t. I know these aren’t very rational thoughts or feelings, but I just feel so bad that he’s gone.’
