A mother has saved her 5-year-old son from a mountain lion outside of Aspen, Colorado in the U.S.
The mother told authorities that she “had to physically remove the lion’s paws from her son’s face”.
The boy is in a fair condition and recovering at a Denver hospital after suffering injuries to his face, head and neck.
Authorities visited the family’s home after the incident was reported. They spotted a mountain lion in the front garden upon their arrival. A U.S. Forest Service officer later killed the lion but is working to find a second one that was spotted in the area on the same day.
The Colorado Parks and Wildlife website says that “Lion attacks on people are rare, with fewer than a dozen fatalities in North America in more than 100 years”.
