Former NRL star Alex McKinnon, who was left paralysed after a devastating on-field incident, has revealed he was reduced to tears at the arrival of his baby girl.
Alex and his wife Teigan welcomed their daughter Harriet on Sunday.
The Daily Telegraph reported that it was Alex’s dream to drive his wife to hospital to deliver their baby after suffering a spinal cord injury that left him a quadriplegic.
Alex’s dream came true.
“I stayed as calm as I could and just drove. I guess all that practice paid off,” he said.
Harriet Anne McKinnon arrived at 1.30pm, the day before the couple’s one year wedding anniversary.
The proud new father added, “People tell you what to expect, but it’s crazy, just crazy.”
“At that moment she arrived I had so many thoughts – we were bawling our eyes out.”
“It’s easily one of the biggest and best days of my life,” he told the Herald.
“I’m so happy to see the baby healthy and to see Teigan healthy as well.
“Her performance was incredible. I knew she was amazing before that but for her to do that, it blew me away.”
Congratulations to Alex and Teigan!
