8 – Pink tips
Taylor Swift set tongues wagging when she turned up to the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards in a sequined jumpsuit and subtly dyed pink tips in her tied back hair. Those with darker locks will have to bleach their tips first to achieve the best, vibrant pink.
7 – Washed out pink
Julia Roberts appeared on Jimmy Kimmel in late 2018 with cool, grungy ‘washed out’pink tint to her hair. The look was entirely accidental however as she revealed she gone to a halloween party dressed as a flamingo. The pink dye in her hair wouldn’t all wash out so the 51-year-old actress just decided to go with it and look incredible anyway.
6 – Pastel pink
When Salma Hayek turned up to the Kering dinner at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival with a jaw-dropping pastel pink curls even her husband Francois-Henri Pinault was shocked. The radical look turned out to be a wig styled by hair colourist Aura Friedman.
‘I used Wella Color Touch which is a semi-permanent hair colour (often used as a gloss or toner) to make a pink tone. I then added a darker cool blonde shadow at the root to make it natural-looking,’ Friedman said.
5 – Pink hair for men
Guys who want to try something different could follow Jonah Hill’s lead and get vibrant pink locks for a new summer look. Hill debuted the look on Instagram with a picture of his new hairstyle and a caption saying simply ‘Omg you guys!’. Celebrity stylist George Papanikolas explained Jonah’s new look, ‘the pink hair was a look he wanted to try. He specifically wanted pink, the process started by lightening the hair to a pale blonde, then using the semi-permanent Matrix So Color Flamenco Fuchsia and Clear.’
4 – Hot pink
US women’s soccer star and World Cup winner Megan Rapinoe’s platinum blonde do was perfect for the startling hot pink hair she revealed when stepping out for a game against Mexico in May. Richard Drews, Rapinoe’s colourist said of the transformation, ‘I initially used Pravana Neon Pink after we did her bleach and tone,’ he said. ‘I think the combo of her using that on the road to keep the colour mixed with this conditioner is what gave her the tonal changes people saw.’
3 – Rose Gold
Helen Mirren is never one to shy away from an incredible new look. She arrived at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival sporting a wonderful rose gold coloured hair do. It’s not the first time she’s been seen with pink hair; Mirren went to the 2013 BAFTAs with short hot pink locks. ‘I just thought it would be fun,’ she said at the time.
2 – Pink and black
As Kim Kardashian was growing out her blonde dye job in 2018 she had the idea to die her locks pink, leaving the dark grown out roots and creating a stunning black to pink transition. She later said that she and her stylist Chris Appleton, ‘thought about it for a month and then decided to just go for it. Since my hair is blonde right now, it was easy to put the pink colour over it. I figured now was the perfect timing!’
1 – Magenta
Also the work of hairstylist Chris Appleton is Katy Perry’s head-turning magenta hairdo styled with loose, retro waves that compliment the deep pink colour. Her make up artist, Michael Anthony, matched her eye shadow colour to her hair, tapered to a sharp cat eye.
