It’s hard to ignore Sophie’s megawatt smile. Warm and exuding positive vibes, as soon as New Idea starts to chat with her, it feels like you’re chatting to a long-lost best friend.
Playing wild child Ziggy Astoni on Home And Away, Sophie hopes viewers will learn from her characters mistakes.
‘Everyone is human, no-on is perfect and if everyone was perfect, it would be boring!’ Sophie shares. ‘I hope Ziggy helps viewers see it’s OK to make mistakes, but you have to learn. Growing up is really hard and you should reach out to the ones who love you.’
The Astoni’s on-screen ups and downs shed light on what a modern-day family goes through, Sophie explains.
‘We want people not to feel alone,’ the 24-year-old says. ‘Taking away a lot of stigma around topics that aren’t necessarily spoken about is really important – so people can see it’s not just in their head or in their family.’
Sophie and boyfriend Ben have been in a long-distance relationship for the past year, but he will be joining her in Sydney very soon.
‘We met in Brisbane, we’ve been together about four and a half years, but he lives in Brisbane,’ Sophie reveals. ‘He’s moving to Sydney at the end of the year. It’s actually been OK – we’re both so busy, so it’s not been that bad. When you live apart and then come together you can make the most of it.’
