Australian Survivor front-runner Shane Gould is an Olympic swimming champion.
One of the world’s greatest female swimmers, the 61-year-old is the only swimmer in history to hold all freestyle world records, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m and the 200m Individual Medley at the same time.
At the 1972 Olympic Games she won 3 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze. Despite being the eldest competitor on Survivor, her lifetime swimming experience and determination has no doubt put her in a very good position to become the sole survivor.
After her major wins, Shane quit swimming at 17 before marrying and moving to the Margaret River to live on a farm with her husband.
“For a lot of people, that was off the planet,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald. “People didn’t understand the alternative lifestyle movement, and I couldn’t explain.
By 25 she had two kids and was living in a mini-community, “milking cows and growing tomatoes”.
Now Shane is ready to win Survivor and that $500,000 prize money!
Even fellow swimming champ Lisa Curry thinks Shane has what it takes to win.
“Shane Gould is tough. She swims every morning in Tasmania …. who would do that in that wintery waters !! Love watching the sly fox on Survivor!! Shane is my bet for the win,” she wrote on Instagram.
