It was one of Dirty Dancing‘s most romantic scenes.
But according to the film’s leading lady, Jennifer Grey, the iconic lake routine was hardly cosy to film.
The 56-year-old has told Sunday People that her co-star Patrick Swayze was suffering from a severe knee injury behind the scenes.
To make matters worse, the water was ‘very, very, very cold’.
‘You have to be really young and hungry to get in water that cold for that long,’ she said of the scene where Patrick’s character Johnny is seen lifting Jennifer, who played Baby, out of the lake over his head.
‘It was not good. I remember thinking: “Can you die if your nipples explode?” It just didn’t feel healthy to be in that water.’
Jennifer had been revisiting filming the iconic movie ahead of a special edition release which celebrates Dirty Dancing‘s 30th anniversary this year.
