They’re regular fixtures on television screens across Australia, but Channel 7 hosts Samantha Armytage and Natalie Barr are now taking their talents online for episodes of the new social media series, Sunrise Unseen.
The veteran Sunrise presenters are lifting the lid on Australia’s number on breakfast show by answering burning questions from Facebook and Instagram users, and in the latest installment Sam recalled a hilarious encounter she had with an intimate beauty therapist.
WATCH Sam Armytage and Natalie Barr recount their awkward fan encounters:
One Instagram user asked how the women feel about stalked by fans in public, and Sam admitted it’s just part of the job.
“Look, sometimes it can be embarrassing – it depends what you’re doing, sometimes people can get a bit harassing say when I’m having a meal with my family, but for the most part I’m quite flattered!
“When people want to say hello and recognise you and watch the show, it’s very nice when they come and say hi in the supermarket or the queue for the post office,” Sam said.
“My favourite place was in the hospital emergency room when I was vomiting into a bucket – that was probably a little on the intrusive side!” Natalie joked.
“But no, most of the time I just think when your head is that big that you’re getting angry when people say ‘I like you on your show’, you need to leave,” she added.
“My worst experience was during a bikini wax – the waxer said ‘I love you on Sunrise!’, and I said how did you recognise me!” Sam laughed.
Another social media user asked if the hosts are really as nice as they appear on Sunrise.
“Well look, the thing is, we’re on air for four hours a day every morning. So, we’re pretty much what you see is what you get – we’re all straight shooters, and that’s why they put us together as a team,” Sam said.
“I reckon most days someone’s in a bad mood, or someone’s tired,” Natalie laughed.
Asked what TV series they are watching at the moment, Sam said “always Grace and Frankie” and revealed she’s just discovered British series Peaky Blinders, while Natalie has just finished the Handmaid’s Tale and Australian hit Animal Kingdom.
