Stephanie Scott’s killer has been sentenced to life in jail.
Vincent Stanford was sentenced in the NSW Supreme Court at Griffith to life in jail without parole for the 2015 rape and murder.
Before reading out the sentence, Justice Robert Allan Hulme said ‘the agreed facts … make it plain that this case is one of great heinousness’, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
‘The attack itself involved extreme brutality by a man of substantial size upon a defenceless young woman … who had no means of escape.’ He added, ‘there was not the slightest hint of remorse.’
Scott was due to marry Aaron Leeson Woolley six days after she was murdered.
Her body was found burnt in the middle of a national park, about 70 kilometres from the home.
Merrilyn Scott told media that her family had lost everything after her daughter was raped and murdered by Vincent Stanford, 9 News reports.
‘So much has been taken away from us. Stephanie has had everything taken away from her. Losing her has shattered so much lives and we are all struggling with the consequences.’
