Three beloved Sesame Street characters are leaving the iconic street as they’ve been evicted.
Since taking over the popular children’s program, HBO has made some changes, cutting three beloved characters: Bob (Bob McGrath), Gordon (Emilio Delgado) and Luis (Roscoe Orman).
McGrath confirmed the news during an appearance at a US fan convention.
‘The show has gone under a major turnaround, going from an hour to a half hour,’ McGrath said.
‘HBO has gotten involved also and they let all of the original cast members go, with the exception of Alan Muraoka and Chris Knowings.’
Sesame Street confirmed the news in an official statement on Twitter, saying the characters will stay remain ‘a treasured part of Sesame Street.’
The Sydney Morning Herald reports the cuts come as producers attempt to revamp the popular show for ‘a new generation of children with different needs.’
Despite the changes, fans have been assured some things will stay the same.
‘Count von Count still counts, and Cookie Monster still eats cookies, albeit in less volume. And with better table manners,’ reports the news site.
Adding, ‘But elsewhere the changes are noticeable. Oscar the Grouch, for example, will no longer live in a regular dustbin but periodically be seen in a recycling bin.’
HBO has not commented on the three sackings.
