Serena Williams has finally broken her silence and opened up on the US Open outburst that caused international controversy.
The 36-year-old tennis star blew up at umpire Carlos Ramos during her Women’s Singles finals match against Naomi Osaka after being penalised for racket abuse and for being coached from the sidelines.
Her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, admitted that he had been coaching her from the box but Serena insisted that she knew nothing about it.
According to news.com.au, Serena told The Project in an interview that is set to air next week that her coach claimed to make a motion but, “I don’t understand what he was talking about. We’ve never had signals.”

Serena also stated again that female tennis players are treated differently to the men on tour.
“I just don’t understand … if you’re a female, you should be able to do even half of what a guy can do,” she said.
Williams was penalised a point and a game, as well as receiving three code violations. She was also fined $17,000.

Billie Jean King – another tennis icon – agreed with Serena and added that she believes tennis applies a double standard to women compared to men, claiming that a similar outburst from a male player would have had zero repercussions.
