Richard Wilkins is one of the great survivors of Australian TV – and the entertainment icon is still perfectly coiffured and on point after all this time – as these pictures from the TODAY show’s trip to Palm Cove show.
The 64-year-old star, who first shot to fame in Australia as the host of the local version of MTV, is up north with Georgie Gardner, Deborah Knight, Stevie Jacobs and Sonia Kruger.
Richard has been an enduringly popular fixture on the box, and it’s something his socialite son Christian has jokingly put down to his dad’s trademark hair, revealing he and his dad ‘go through about 15 cans of hairspray a week.’
‘I always say that I [attribute] my dad’s longevity in the industry to his hair so I’m just trying to keep the hair as well, and see if it works for me,’ Christian said.
But the star’s hair has been a sensitive subject in the past, with Richard reportedly walking off set when Sylvia Jeffries quipped that the look resembled that of a Stegosaurus.
Despite remaining eternally youthful, Richard says that cosmetic work isn’t for him, telling the Herald Sun: ‘No, no, no, no, no! I’m just growing old disgracefully. I choose to let Mother Nature take her course.’
