They’re coming out of Africa as a royal couple!
Prince Harry got down on one knee and proposed to his American girlfriend Meghan Markle under the stars on a beautiful moonlit night during their safari in Botswana.
With the help of his brother Prince William and his sister- in-law Duchess Kate, who also got engaged in Africa, the red-haired royal Romeo officially got his girl – and what a stylish 21st century couple they will make!
Meghan is 36 years old, the same age Princess Diana was when she was tragically killed in a Paris car crash 20 years ago.
After she finished filming the legal drama Suits in Toronto, Meghan flew to Europe and linked up with Harry, before they arrived in Botswana via South Africa on her birthday.
It’s no surprise that the 32-year-old prince chose Botswana as the place to make Meghan his African queen.
He regards the country as a ‘second home’, and has previously romanced three other girlfriends there.
Harry has enjoyed holidays with sports presenter Natalie Pinkham, major love Chelsy Davy and actress Cressida Bonas on previous visits.
Earlier this year he said: ‘I’ve been lucky enough to visit Botswana for more than 20 years and am incredibly fortunate to be able to call it my second home.
‘This is where I feel more like myself than anywhere else in the world. It has this intense sense of complete relaxation and normality here.’
It was during a trip to Kenya in 2010 that Prince William finally plucked up the courage to propose to Kate Middleton after their eight-year courtship.
The couple were staying in a log cabin overlooking Lake Rutundu in the Mount Kenya National Park when he popped the question.
And an insider reveals that Kate has been helping Harry with his plan to woo Meghan in Africa too.
‘Kate loves Meghan to bits and can’t wait to have her as a friend and confidante within the royal family,’ said a pal.
‘She is very excited for Harry, and has been helping him behind the scenes to plan the trip and also how he should propose.
‘She knows it’s very important for Harry to get this right. He must dispel any doubts Meghan might have about joining “the Firm”, knowing her life will never be the same again.
‘Everything is wonderful on holiday, but now they are engaged, reality will set in and Meghan has been told what to expect. Fortunately, she is up for it and ready.
‘She and Harry share so many causes and interests, and are made for each other.’
