Peaches Geldof’s widow has spoken out about the tragic moment he found his wife dead.
On the third anniversary of the 25-year-old’s fatal heroin overdose, S.C.U.M rocker Thomas Cohen has shared intimate details about his grief in the moments after he discovered her body.
“When I found her, I was not surprised,” he confessed to German newspaper, Bild.
“I thought to myself at the moment: ‘Yes of course – you had to do that.’”
“What I can remember, it must have been an hour after I’ve found it, that it’s time for the kids’ lunch. They needed their lunch. So I took the children’s chairs to the table, took the yoghurts out of the fridge, the bananas… After that we drove here. Escorted by the police.”
“The routine I had to keep up with the children helped me a lot,” he added.
The musician, who shares two young sons with the late socialite, also admitted that he resented the fact they had lived longer than they knew their mother.
“They were just one and two years,” he said. “Now they are four and five.”
In the candid interview, Thomas – who has since found love again with actress Zoe Sidel – made a rare revealation about his former lover’s drug addiction.
“Heroin, is a drug where you’re trying to enforce something on you that’s greater than life. You can only really… it’s horrible you’re filling your body with something.”
“It was incredibly traumatising, after it happened… a few months after. Because it was so deeply traumatising you know that moment.”
Speaking to the Sunday Times Magazine Thomas previously spoke about how it felt becoming a single dad at the age of 23.
“I had two children wo needed to be taken care of and, in maybe early June 2014, I started to do that, and now we’re here in 2016,” he said.
“I just made the decision to start looking after myself and refused to lose myself and become a traumatized, grief-stricken single father who everyone’s going to look at and think and feel all of these things about.”
