Meghan Markle has officially moved to London to become a princess (well – not really), but as she prepares to wed Prince Harry next year the bride-to-be has been hit with devastating news.
It has been reported that Meghan’s only been allowed to bring one of her beloved dogs with her to London, while the other has been left behind in Canada to live permanently with friends.
A spokesperson for Kensington Palace confirmed to The Blast that one of Markle’s dogs accompanied her to the UK, while the other was left behind.
The spokesman said, ‘This is a permanent decision that Meghan made on her own — not an easy one at that.’
Meghan, who is set to marry Prince Harry in May of 2018, had two rescue dogs, a beagle named Guy and a Labrador-Shepard mix named Bogart. he two were regularly featured on her social media, and the Suits actress has always been an activist for adopting dogs, always including the hashtag #adoptdontshop alongside the pictures of her furry friends!
During an interview with the BBC on Monday, Markle mentioned that one of her dogs was currently with friends, but she did not reveal that it was in fact a permanent move.
She said, ‘I have two dogs that I’ve had for quite a long time, both my rescue pups. … And one is now staying with very close friends and my other little guy is, yes, he’s in the UK, he’s been here for a while.’
She added, ‘I think he’s doing just fine.’
Although Markle hasn’t explained why Bogart was unable to travel to the UK, it is well-known that pet owners from the US must meet a lengthy list of requirements under Britain’s Pet Travel Scheme to bring their dogs into the country, requirements that are hard to meet for some dogs, especially older dogs.
Bogart was an older dog, and it is believed he did not meet the requirements for traveling to the UK. Meghan has assured he is in good hands though!
