A show like Married At First Sight was always bound to attract drama, but Dave’s rejection of Jess four days into their married life left a lot of viewers stunned. Two weeks since her first tearful announcement of the marriage breakdown, the banking officer was given the opportunity to confront her ‘ex-husband’ at a dinner for the show’s couples in Sydney’s Blue Mountains. And she got some revenge by putting him on the spot in front of a hostile audience of fellow couples.
“It’s a very big night for me as I’m about to go and see a person who after four days decided that they didn’t like me, so I guess it’s sort of my chance to redeem myself,” Jess told cameras, “I’ve been replaying in my head the comment Dave made when we broke up about not being strong and not being confident and I don’t know exactly how I’m going to react when I see him. I bought a new outfit so I can walk in and look amazing and feel amazing and really show that he wrote me off a bit too soon.’
Dave however had a different motivation for attending the dinner after saying that he thought “she’d take it a little bit better than she did” and that “not everyone’s supposed to be together”. His goal for the dinner was to see the other couples and avoid “‘any potential confrontation at the dinner table. I don’t want to go there tonight and have anybody bickering about anything.”
Sadly, Jess didn’t exactly get the apology she was looking for – but Dave’s squirming must have pleased her no end. He started the evening by greeting her last of all in the room and Jess ended it with some choice comments about his behaviour.
Jess emotionally slammed her almost-partner, saying: “You treated me incredibly badly for those four days. You were incredibly distant… you spoke to a horse more than you spoke to me. You wouldn’t even engage in polite conversation. I gave you an opportunity to have an out two days into it and you didn’t take that. You then dragged it on and then finished it an hour before we were supposed to drive to the airport and then also said that in the interest of comfort that we should share separate cars.”
