Married At First Sight meltdown: ‘He’s dead to me!’

Couple's TV nuptials are marred by drama

They were supposed to usher in an exciting new era of same sex marriage on mainstream television, but Married At First Sight couple Craig and Andy appear to have gotten off to a decidedly rough start, and are now mired in controversy and drama.

The duo, who were both looking for love and commitment after a string of personal disappointments, walked down the aisle amid plenty of tension – with a preview clip for tonight’s show depicting Andy saying, ‘He’s dead to me.’ Whether the decisive statement turns out to be about Craig remains to be seen.

Things threatened to go sour early on, when Craig suffered an emotional moment after losing his speech. ‘Turn the camera off or I’m gonna walk!’ raged the groom, before retreating to another room and closing the door on the film crew, and his best man. Then the ring went missing, after being left behind in the hotel room during the drama.

Amid some dismay from sections of the gay community about the TV show trivialising gay marriage by featuring the wedding of a couple who don’t know each other – while the fight for marriage equality for real-life, long term partners rages around Australia – Craig has expressed some distress about the way he’s been depicted in the show. He told news.com.au, ‘I hope people see beyond the way I’ve been portrayed and not the way it’s been edited,’ before claiming that producers ‘put words into my mouth that I didn’t even say.’

The unlucky-in-love groom told the site that he’s handling the ongoing drama well, revealing he’s more concerned about how his mum will react.
