The glory days of Married At First Sight are behind us (until the net season that is), but the stars of Australia’s most scandalous reality TV show aren’t ready to say goodbye to their showbiz success just yet.
Hot on the heels of the series, a live stage show called Married… Still Looking For Love was created promising “two hours of drama, suspense and a whole lot of revelations” about the true goings on when cameras stopped rolling.
Still Looking For Love was set to include many of the stars of this year’s MAFS, including Ning Surasiang, Melissa Lucarelli, Mick Gould and Cyclone Cyrell Paule, as well as Dean Wells from the previous season.
The show, which was scheduled to kick off on Sunday May 19 at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre with a later date in Melbourne, was expected to expose the show’s biggest secrets – but in an interview with Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa MAFS bad boy Dean revealed the tour has been cancelled.
Dean said the cancellation was due to a number of factors, including conflicting schedules and a lack of promotion from the stars.
“I just know what I’ve been told. It just became a bit unorganised,” he said.
Asked if Channel 9 had become involved to try to stop the tell-all show, Dean replied: “Certain people couldn’t make certain shows who had agreed to the shows, and that put a spanner in the works. It kind of just fell apart.”
Dean said he was disappointed the show wasn’t going ahead because “what you see on the show is such a small part of what really goes on”.
He also revealed the production would have included a lot of “juicy details”.
Quizzed on how much the stars were due to be paid for event, Dean admitted reality TV is “not as lucrative as people think” and confirmed the pay out would have been less than $2,500 per person.
Despite the cancellation, the 41-year-old told Fitzy & Wippa he had received a great response from the public and secured a healthy number of ticket sales, adding he hoped the production would go ahead at a later date.
KIIS FM, the home of Kyle and Jackie O, obtained an email from the show’s producers informing ticket holders that both shows have been scrapped due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
Promotional material for the event was promptly pulled offline but no public announcement of the cancellation was made.
