There’s no denying their chemistry on-screen, and now Hollywood actor Alexander Skarsgård, who plays Perry in HBO’s hit drama Big Little Lies, reveals what it was really like playing the role of Aussie star Nicole Kidman’s husband on the show. This comes after the pair were photographed looking very friendly at a recent event – amid talk that Keith Urban is missing his wife while on tour.

While the TV couple shot some very heated sex scenes, they also portrayed some horrific moments of domestic violence.

Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O, Alexander, 42, admits it was “horrible” to film the violent encounters with his Oscar-winning Australian co-star.

“It was extraordinary to work with Nicole. She’s not only an incredible actress but she’s also the most lovely and generous and sweet woman. So, of course, shooting those scenes was horrible. Absolutely horrible,” he says.

Alexander also reveals that Nicole, 52, was offered a stunt double for some of the more brutal fight scenes – but she refused.

And the process sometimes even left real bruises on Nicole – who plays Celeste in the show.

“She is incredibly committed and we did have a body double, like a stunt double on set, for, you know, when I throw her over chairs and stuff and when it gets really violent, and Nicole wanted to do it herself,” he said.

“But of course it was very difficult. We were both incredibly drained and Nicole bruised after those days.”

Due to the intense mix of sex and abuse in their fictional marriage, Alexander said he and Emmy-award winning Nicole spent time behind the scenes before filming to get to know each other.

“Nicole and I had some time together to build up that trust before shooting those scenes which was crucial to have, because again, some of them are very violent and very physical and very psychologically draining,” he adds.

With the pair clearly friendly off screen, what Nicole’s husband Keith Urban will make of their close friendship is anyone’s guess.
