It’s the romance that Titanic fans have been waiting two decades for – the moment that Kate Winslet and Leo DiCaprio make their epic film love story a reality.
And last week the pair did nothing to extinguish persistent hopes of a romance, appearing very cosy at the 20-year anniversary party for the Oscar-winning film.
Kate and Leo cuddled affectionately and spent most of the night locked in deep conversation, with one onlooker telling New Idea that the actor ‘only had eyes for Kate’.
‘Leo spent the whole night staring at Kate like she was the moon, the stars and the sun rolled into one,’ said an onlooker.
‘He was smitten, looking for any excuse to affectionately touch her and be close to her. They were speaking very close at one point, and to anyone seeing them for the first time you would think they seemed like a couple in love.
‘The chemistry is palpable still, after all these years. Everyone at the party was asking the one question: “Why can’t they just get together?”
It’s obvious that Leo is still in love with her, and they sizzle in a room together.
‘It’s the romance that for 20 years fans have been hoping and praying – for Jack and Rose to fall in love in real life. And after seeing how close they were at last week’s party – they’re going to keep hoping and praying for another 20 years. This romance needs to happen.’
Since filming Titanic, Leo and Kate have made no secret of their ongoing affection for each other. From Leo declaring ‘I love you, sweetheart’ and telling reporters that Kate, 41, is ‘still as radiant and beautiful as the day I met her’, the pair have done nothing to quell our obsession with this dream Hollywood couple.
But it’s Kate’s public red carpet declarations of love – and that kiss at the 2016 SAG Awards – that have titillated fans the most over the years.
At the 2009 Golden Globes, Kate gushed to Leo in her acceptance speech, saying: ‘Leo, I’m so happy I can stand here and tell you how much I love you, and how I’ve loved you for 13 years.’
So what’s keeping them apart? Sources tell New Idea that it’s a question of timing, with Kate being married or in relationships since they met. Leo, 42, meanwhile, has struggled to find lasting love.
‘Leo is the ultimate bachelor, jumping from one model to the next and one yacht to the next,’ says a source. ‘But behind the playboy lifestyle is the fact he could never have the woman he wanted – Kate.’
