Karl Stefanovic is seen tearing up in an emotional new trailer for This Time Next Year.
The emotional outburst comes after the Channel 9 star recently opened up about his struggles since his shock departure from The Today Show.

Karl broke down as a woman told him it was likely she would never walk again.
The Australian TV host was left in tears as the woman said: “They told me they didn’t think I’d ever walk again.”
“No, no, this isn’t how my story ends,” the woman added, after appearing on stage in a wheelchair.
The new season of This Time Next Year is set to be the most emotional one yet.
In the trailer, Karl sits down with Australians facing immense personal battles, including cancer.
The former Today host recently opened up about his own struggles at a Channel Nine post-Logies brunch.
“I think I was struggling towards the end of last year. It wasn’t a great surprise to me – in fact, it was a relief in many ways that I was taken off the Today show, because I just wasn’t at my best.
“And you can’t be doing that show unless you are at the top of your game,” Karl confessed.
Karl received a great deal of negative attention following his split from ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn and just as he married shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough in Mexico late last year, the embattled anchor was axed from the Today Show.
“I don’t believe for a second I was at my best,” Karl added.
Last week, Karl told the Sydney Morning Herald that his dismissal put a strain on his health.
‘‘It’s been about six months since I was on the telly and I needed to have a rest towards the end of last year, I was cooked,’’ the ex-co-host confessed, adding ‘‘it had taken its toll, a lot of the attention at the end of last year… a lot of unwarranted attention, I thought.’’
Channel 9 advised Karl Stefanovic to fly under the radar after he left the Australian breakfast show.
At the time of his dismissal, Karl insinuated that he would be returning to Channel Nine eventually after taking some time.
“Thanks to our viewers mostly, you are what matters most. It’s been a tough time. Thanks for hanging in there. I look forward to seeing you in another capacity at this great network soon.”
Since his challenging time after leaving the breakfast program, Karl is being embraced by the Nine Network again.
Not only is Karl hosting This Time Next Year, but he is also working on stories for Channel 9’s 60 Minutes, proving that dark times never last.
