Hugh Jackman has enjoyed a long run as Wolverine but his career was nearly stopped in its tracks in the early days because of terrible anxiety, US Closer magazine reports.
The Aussie star, 48, reveals that crippling nerves nearly got him fired from the first X-Men film in 2000 – potentially wrecking his career and shattering his dreams.
“I was freaking out,” Hugh bravely confesses. “I was nervous.”
It wasn’t until studio executive Tom Rothman took him aside and had a talk with him that Hugh was able to turn things around.
“He had a gut feeling that I was the guy but [my acting] was average, to be honest,” Hugh recalls. “I thought I was getting away with it, but I wasn’t.”
