EXCLUSIVE: Home & Away star in horror crash

The actor is lucky to be alive

Former Home and Away star David Jones-Roberts is lucky to be alive after he was involved in a terrifying motorcycle accident in Los Angeles.

David, who played Xavier Austin on the long-running Seven series, was returning to Los Angeles from Canada, where the actor was shooting an episode of Stan series iZombie.

He was riding his motorcycle along busy Melrose Avenue on Sept. 15, when a car pulled out in front of him.

“I tried to get around him, but I hit the back passenger’s side of the car and went flying,” David, 28, exclusively tells New Idea.

His body flipped over the car and skidded to a stop in the middle of the road.

David was fortunate to have survived the accident, with a firefighter at the scene of the crash telling him, “You should be dead”.

He found out he’d ruptured the quadriceps tendon in his left leg. “I had no control over being able to bend or lift the leg,” David explains.

But David’s nightmare was just beginning. “I had to have surgery within 48 hours otherwise I might not be able to walk again,” he adds.

The problem was, because the Aussie didn’t have health insurance, he had to take himself to a second hospital.

By now, his girlfriend, Heartland actress Jessica Amlee, had joined David. “We ordered an Uber and I hobbled out of the hospital in excruciating pain and put myself into a car,” he explains.

Some 30 hours after his accident, David was finally operated on and is now recovering. It will be at least five months before he regains mobility in his leg – if he does at all.

“But I’m alive,” David says. “It could have been worse.”
