Former reality star Sam Frost (Jasmine Delaney) and actor Jake Ryan (Robbo) are one of Summer Bay’s hottest new couples.
Speaking to New Idea, the co-stars reveal what it’s really like to film THOSE steamy love scenes on the long running Australian soap, and their idea of the perfect winter date night.
Best date you’ve been on?
Jake: I had a really fun date night for my girlfriend Alice’s birthday in Melbourne a few weeks ago. We ordered pizza and went to the Coburg Drive-In.
Worst date you’ve been on?
Sam: “I once went on a date with this guy and was telling him a story about how my brother had said to me: ‘Sam, why did you do that?’ The guy I was with looked at me and said ‘Oh, is Sam your older or younger brother?’ I said, ‘Mate, Sam’s my name!’
Tips for the perfect winter date?
Jake: Rug up with great food and wine, plus a fireplace is always good.
Sam: Wear something comfortable and warm and do something fun – like going bowling!
Most romantic thing a partner’s ever done for you?
Sam: Well, it sounds romantic until I tell you the punchline! For my 30th birthday, my partner Dave was away for work, so over those two weeks, he hid cards around the house. But inside each were some of the most horrendous photos of me I’ve seen in my life. Dave was like, ‘You’re a real catch, babe!’ I thought it was perfect.
What’s it really like filming love scenes?
Sam: It’s pretty easy, actually. It helps when you have a good relationship with your colleague.
Jake and I have worked together for a year and a half now, so you become really comfortable with each other.
Jake: At the end of the day, you’re in a room with 20 people, there’s camera angles to think of and it’s so technical.
And half the time you’re talking in between the scenes about anything, such as what you’re going to be having for lunch!
All-time favourite Home and Away couple?
Sam: Oh, it’s got to be Shane (Dieter Brummer) and Angel (Melissa George)! And now I love John and Maz.
They’ve stood the test of time, which is really tricky to do in Summer Bay!
Jake: It would have to be Tug (Tristan Bancks) and Sarah (Laura Vasquez).
What romantic advice would you love to give your character?
Jake: Robbo can be a pretty single-minded and selfish buffoon, although everything does come from a really good- hearted place.
So I’d probably just tell him to communicate a little bit better.
Which characters would you like to see embarking on a new romance?
Sam: Ryder (Lukas Radovich) and Bella (Courtney Miller) – I think they’d be a perfect match.
Other Home and Away stars interviewed in this series include Ada Nicodemou (Leah Patterson-Baker) and James Stewart (Justin Morgan), Sophie Dillman (Ziggy Astoni) and Patrick O’Connor (Dean Thompson), Emily Weir (Mackenzie Booth) and Tim Franklin (Colby Thorne).
