Grant Hackett has announced that he and girlfriend Sharlene Fletcher are expecting their first child after suffering a devastating miscarriage in March.
The retired Olympic swimmer – who shares twins Charlize and Jagger with ex-wife Candice Alley – told The Sunday Telegraph that he “wanted another opportunity as a dad”.
‘I felt I was going to hit 40 and I wanted another opportunity as a dad,’ he revealed.
‘The trouble with being divorced is you’re a father part-time. I hate that,’ Grant added
‘I knew I wanted more children but only with a committed person who was going to be a life partner.’
The pair have been dating since 2015.
In 2017, Hackett was arrested following a dramatic breakdown.
At the time, Grant’s brother Craig said his swimming star brother is “a completely different person” from the champion that not long ago had ‘the world at his feet.’
‘He’s a danger to himself. He’s a danger to the community,’ Craig told news.com.au.
‘The Grant Hackett that Australia fell in love with, they can still have that affection towards him,” he continued.
‘This is not Grant Hackett.’
‘I don’t know this person. I don’t know this person, my mum and dad don’t know this person. He’s there in body, but he’s not there in mind, soul or spirit.’
