Speaking on his 2DayFM breakfast show on Thursday, Gold Logie winner Grant said he was upset that Aussie comedian Tom wasn’t taking the nominations seriously, and that he had been attacking fellow nominees.
Tom has posted a series of tweets and “attack ads” slamming other nominees as part of his effort to win Gold.
Grant also vented about weatherman Sam Mac, whose campaign has seen him touring the country in a bus emblazoned with his own face and ‘Sam Mac for Gold’ in an effort to gain more votes.
“It’s become a joke this year,” Grant told his radio co-hosts Ed Kavalee and Ash London.
“Two of the loudest Gold nominees are just effectively taking the p*ss.”
“He’s machine-gunning the institution of the Logies, which is the only institution we have,” Grant said.
“He’s slagging everyone off… Tom Gleeson is just taking all the headlines. He’s being real angry about it. He’s hammering me for not supporting his campaign this year. I don’t really owe him anything, so I’m worried if he wins, that’s it for the Logies forever.”
Somewhat ironically, Grant’s tirade comes 12 months after he won the Gold Logie after a #Denyer4Gold campaign helped, in part, by Tom Gleeson.
Just one week before voting closed last year, comedian and Hard Chat host Tom decided to support Grant in his quest for Gold.
Whether Tom’s support pushed Grant’s votes across the line will never be known, but he took full credit for it at the time.
Tom Gleeson and Sam Mac will battle it out against Amanda Keller, Rodger Corser, Eve Morey, Costa Georgiadis and journalist Waleed Aly for the coveted Gold Logie this year.
