Bonnie Sveen spills: ‘The truth about Jessica Mauboy’

The Secret Daughter star shares her thoughts on the show and her co-star

She became a household name after starring as Ricky Sharpe on Home And away for three years but now, Bonnie Sveen is lighting up screens alongside co-star Jess Mauboy on The Secret Daughter.

The 28 year-old blonde beauty reveals she couldn’t be more thrilled to be apart of a show that has cast an indigenous woman (Jessica Mauboy) as the lead.

‘It’s been a long time coming and too long a wait, but it was an exciting prospect for me to a part of something on commercial television with a female Aboriginal lead,’ Bonnie explains.

The NIDA graduate went on to describe what being involved in the Seven drama means to her.

‘It’s really important to me that all communities, particularly Indigenous, are represented onscreen and show that you can grow up and be whatever you want.’

Bonnie also couldn’t stop gushing about her friend, Jessica, who she describe as a ‘sister.’

‘Jess is just this incredible person,’ Bonnie explains.

Jessica, 27, also recently spoke out about onscreen diversity.

The songstress, whose father is Indonesian and whose mother is Indigenous Australian, plays pub singer Billie Carter.

‘I am now a part of a show that I would have wanted to see growing up. I feel really proud to have stood up and taken this role,’ Jessica said. ‘Doing this show has been a life highlight in a direction I didn’t ever think I’d be going.’
