With Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton the subject of ongoing feud rumours, royal veteran Sarah Ferguson’s name has been brought into the drama – with a warning from the past.

In echoes of the falling out between onetime friends Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson, the once promising rapport between Meghan and Kate began to deteriorate after a cosy beginning – with Harry and Meghan’s departure from the palace to Frogmore Cottage seen as the final piece of evidence that the two couples definitely do not get on.
Speaking on New Idea’s Royals podcast, royal expert Angela Mollard said, ‘It does feel very much to me that we’re re-entering the Fergie-Diana years.
‘We had these two young wives in the royal family.
‘At first they were great mates.
‘Within months, and Diana chronicled this, they became less friendly to the point of animosity.
‘I hope that doesn’t happen here, but it does feel little bit like history is repeating itself.’
While Diana and Fergie never repaired their friendship before the royal’s tragic death, after Sarah wrote in her autobiography that Diana had given her plantar warts, the contemporary royals are not in the same boat – having maturity and time on their side to work things out.
‘The only difference is, Fergie and Diana were both very, very young,’ says Angela. ‘Diana was only 19 she met Charles.
‘If you think about it Meghan is twice as old as Diana was when she met Charles.
‘Meghan now is older than Diana when she died.
‘That brings greater depth and maturity and hopefully some wisdom.’
