Prince Andrew married Sarah in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey on July 23, 1986.

The couple went on to have two daughters, Princess Beatrice, now 30, and Princess Eugenie, now 29.

But it wasn’t long before cracks began appearing in their relationship.

And after only six years married, the couple’s romance was on the rocks, and they announced their separation in March 1992.

But the real shocker was yet to come…

Just five months after their breakup, Fergie was photographed with her ‘financial advisor’ at her holiday villa in St Tropez, and the scandalous shots were published in the Daily Mirror.

In what was at the time arguably the royal family’s biggest ever scandal, Sarah was seen laying by the pool in the intimate photos, and Texan millionaire John Bryan was kissing and sucking the Duchess’ toes and the arch of her foot.

Never before had such sensational photos been seen of a royal.

According to reports at the time, when the photos were published in the British press, on August 20, its 3.5 million print run had sold out by 9am.

And most awkwardly, Fergie was staying with the royal family at the Queen’s Balmoral residence at the time.

Writing in her autobiography years later, Fergie said: “It would be accurate to report that the porridge was getting cold. Eyes wide and mouths ajar, the adults were flipping through the Daily Mirror.”

This was the final nail in the coffin for Andrew and Fergie, as far as the Queen was concerned.

“The Queen was furious, absolutely furious. I think partly because she loved Fergie so much,” Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty magazine has said.

“She just couldn’t believe Fergie could have been so stupid to allow this to happen.

After four years of separation, Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew officially announced their decision to divorce in May 1996.
