Prince William‘s close relationship with his mum Princess Diana often saw a role reversal, with the young royal comforting his mother when she was upset, a documentary has revealed.

In the doco, Prince William at Thirty, royal expert Katie Nicholl told the heartbreaking story of a time William pushed tissues under the bathroom door to Diana.
“There’s one really moving story when Diana was in tears in her bathroom and William was pushing tissues under the door because he could hear her crying,” Katie said.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond added that the roles were often reversed in their relationship.
She explained how William would say: “It’ll be alright mummy, it’ll be alright, I’ll look after you.”
Adding: “It was all the wrong way round for William.
“He was having to comfort his mother when she should have been looking after him – he was just a little boy.”

Former royal protection officer Ken Wharfe also confirmed Diana and William’s close relationship.
He said: “Diana did put a lot of responsibility on William’s shoulders as someone to comfort and to talk to and to be with.”

William took the breakdown of his parents’ marriage hard, and would have been comforting Harry through the tough times too.
“William was just about to enter those very difficult teenage years and had to do so with the backdrop of his parents’ marriage disintegrating in the most publically awful way,” Katie explained.
Former royal press officer Dickie Arbiter added: “The body language between Charles and Diana was non-existent.
“It was so frosty you could have driven an ice-breaker between the two of them and not cracked the ice.”
Charles and Diana eventually divorced in 1996, just one year before Diana’s untimely death after a car crash in Paris, on August 31, 1997.
