Meghan Markle was left ‘afraid’ after she received death threats when she starred in Suits with some fans brandishing her a ‘wh***’ and a ‘sl**’.
According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, the Duchess of Sussex was curled up on the sofa scrolling through her Twitter checking any fan reaction to her character Rachel kissing her old boyfriend Logan Sanders while he was with someone else.
‘When Meghan took another sip of red wine, she nearly choked as she scrolled through to the comments.
“‘You dirty bird!’ ‘I’m unfollowing you! How could you cheat on Mike?’ ‘W***e…’” Andrew wrote in his book Meghan A Hollywood Princess.
The actress subsequently deleted and blocked some of the users but was still left traumatised from the online attack.
“As the night wore on, she was genuinely concerned, and not a little afraid, as more and more emojis of knives and guns appeared,” Andrew continued.
Meghan began to feel genuinely concerned for how much the fans were making out her character was real to true life.
“As she pondered just how fans could become so invested in a story, which was, after all, make-believe, the comments kept heating up.
“Now there were death threats. ‘Meghan Markle, I wanna kill you. You sl*t.’” continued Andrew adding that the fans were unable to separate the real Meghan from her character Rachel.
Speaking previously to Extra, Meghan’s on-screen dad in Suits revealed the security she had with her on set.
“I actually didn’t believe it was real, then all of a sudden I turn around and there is this guy from MI5 [British security service] on set every day,” Wendell Pierce said.
“The one thing that was clear, she was extremely happy,” he added.
“She had a glow. I knew she was in love … With the whirlwind of publicity and the world of being a royal now, the one thing that’s constant is the fact that I know she loves him.”
