In a series of interviews with People magazine, five of Meghan’s closest friends revealed the estrangement between her and father Thomas Markle has caused the Duchess great pain.
According to the publication, Meghan Markle, 37, wrote her father this heartrending plea following Thomas’s continuious grabs for media attention: “Dad, I’m so heartbroken. I love you. I have one father. Please stop victimising me through the media so we can repair our relationship.”
According to a close friend, Thomas, 74, wrote a letter back which requested they do a father-daughter photo shoot.
The friend told People magazine: “She feels like, ‘That’s the opposite of what I’m saying. I’m telling you I don’t want to communicate through the media, and you’re asking me to communicate through the media.
‘Did you hear anything I said?’ I think she will always feel genuinely devastated by what he has done.”
A friend and former co-star of the Suits actress – who remained anonymous along with the other five interviewees – said that Meghan implored her father to attend the royal wedding despite the revelation he had staged paparazzi photos.
A friend said: “She’s calling and texting, even up to the night before the wedding.
“It was like, ‘Please pick up. I love you, and I’m scared.’ It was endless.”
Despite Thomas Markle frequently insisting he has no way to contact his daughter, one close confidante of Meghan says this is a flat-out lie: “He knows how to get in touch with her,
“He’s never called; he’s never texted. It’s super painful because Meg was always so dutiful.”
The friend added: “At the same time because she’s a daughter, she has a lot of sympathy for him.”
