A lesbian couple who used a sperm donor in Mexico to conceive their twin boys were shocked when his photo popped up in their Facebook feed.
Brooke Creemers and Jocelyn Baayens only knew a small amount about their sperm donor when they chose him as the father of their children. They had some personal information, his medical records and a single photograph.
So when his face popped up on their Facebook feed months after their sons Lachlan and Sebastian were born they decided to reach out to him and see if they could meet. Brooke was flicking through her Facebook feed and a picture of the IVF clinic coordinator came up. He was with friends and one of those friends caught her eye. She looked closer and realised it was the same man from the sperm donor files.
The couple from Western Australia now want to fly their donor, Joel, over from Mexico to meet their twins who just celebrated their first birthday.
Says Brooke: ‘I thought this was an opportunity and I wanted to open that door. Otherwise there was never a way for our boys to meet him.’
After messaging Joel, he replied and was shocked but keen to meet the boys. ‘Turns out he is gay as well,’ says Brooke.
