The heart-stopping moment every parent dreads

A seven-year-old boy was left frightened and alone - and it could easily happen to anyone

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare – Andy and Gen Ashton looked on in horror as their seven-year-old son, Zari, was left behind on a Melbourne train platform after a family day out.

The little boy was the last of his family to board the train at Newport, and while attempting to wheel his bike on to the carriage, the doors shut on him and he was left alone on the platform.

The distressing video shows a terrified Zari screaming as he drops his bike and runs down the platform in an attempt to chase the train.

Despite his terrified family and other passengers pressing the emergency intercom button, the train continued on.

After an agonising 10 minutes, the Ashton family managed to get off at the next station, Spotswood, and rode back to rescue the little boy.

“I remember looking out from the train and seeing his face through the window of the train,” Andy says.

“It was a really scary feeling seeing your son looking terrified and not being able to help them at all.

It was probably the worst moment of my parenting life’,
