If ever there is a time self-care can be considered a necessity (in our opinion, it’s always) it’s during pregnancy.
Pregnancy is considered a normal part of life and the life cycle but what a woman’s body goes through is nothing short of extraordinary.
From debilitating side effects some endure while carrying their baby to the intensity of labour, we go through a lot.
There’s a definitive checklist when it comes to routine self-care – long baths, longer books and face masks – the latter of which has now been given a special twist just for pregnant women.
Keeping active
It’s important to set a routine that works for you, and is recommended by your doctor.
But if you’re able to, keeping active during pregnancy is a great for your mental and physical wellbeing.
According to the Royal Women’s Hospital: “Exercise will not harm your developing baby as long as you exercise at a safe level.”
Pregnancybabybirth.org recommends tailoring your activity level based on how active you were before falling pregnant. For example, if you were active before falling pregnant, you can aim for about 15 to 30 minutes of low to moderate aerobic exercise each day.
Warm baths
Who doesn’t like a long bath? But did you know there are a lot of benefits?
Having a nice, warm bath can help alleviate muscle aches and pains, and any pregnant person will tell you there are plenty of those while carrying a baby!
A bath can also hold the weight of your baby, which takes the pressure of your spine and pelvis!
Keep the temperature warm (not hot!) add some pregnancy-safe essential oils, a candle and you’re set for relaxation.
Pre-natal massage
Massage is great for reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and relieving fatigue and mental strain at the best of times.
So, during pregnancy when our bodies are experiencing all this 10-fold, its justified to splurge on a pre-natal massage.
Make sure to check the massage is suited for pregnancy before booking.
