A four-day-old baby has died after his mother allegedly put him in the fridge.
Authorities in South Carolina have charged 27-year-old Angela Blackwell with homicide by child abuse, claiming she placed her newborn son in the refrigerator and failed to seek medical help until she removed him three hours later.
Medical staff were unable to revive the baby, who died from hypothermia with asphyxiation.
Appearing in court over her crimes, Angela, who also has a three-year-old son, was unable to be granted bail and faces a life sentence in prison.
The baby’s father, Jeff Lewis, says that while Angela is mentally disabled, she is a very caring and protective mother.
Meanwhile, the baby’s grandfather, Billy Lewis, maintains Angela is innocent.
‘She’s always good to the kids, anybody’s kids,’ says Billy. ‘We know she didn’t do it, but we don’t know who did.’
