A mother and daughter have been charged and sentenced to prison after killing two members of their family.
Diane Staudte was sentenced to life in prison, while and her second oldest child, Rachel, was sentenced in March to two life terms.
‘They were close,’ says Rob Mancuso, who was a friend of Diane’s husband and Rachel’s father, Mark Staudte.
The first death came with when Mark, 61, died of flu like symptoms.
Five months later, Diane’s 26-year-old son, Shaun, was found dead on his bedroom floor.
‘We just thought it was a spate of bad luck,’ Mark’s brother, Michael Staudte, tells PEOPLE.
Shortly after, Sarah was admitted to hospital with organ failure.
Diane was charged with murdering Mark and Shaun, and for attempting to murder Sarah. She admitted to putting antifreeze in their drinks.
When police questioned Rachel, she confessed to helping her mum.
