An Aussie mum has told why she made the heart-wrenching decision to leave her children with their dad so she could pursue a job in another city.
Kristal Kinsela moved to Sydney four months ago, leaving her nine-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter in Port Macquarie, on the NSW mid-north coast.
While the 35-year-old says the decision goes against her Aboriginal culture, Kristal believes her work ethic provides a good role model for her children.
A business owner and consultant, Kristal is separated from her husband and says the previous arrangement of moving between two houses was too much for them.
‘They enjoy living in the one home and their happiness is the most important thing. They need to feel safe and secure,’ she explains.
She adds that she worries about what people think about her, but insists having a job sets a good example.
You can hear more about Kristal’s story when she appears on SBS’s Insight special on mothers who leave at 8.30pm tonight.
