Taking the term ‘a dog is a man’s best friend’ one step further, a large group of men in the UK are squeezing themselves into canine latex playsuits to indulge in their ‘Human Pups’ hobby.
And for the first time, the bizarre practice has been profiled in the UK Channel 4 documentary The Secret Life of Human Pups
Following the story of theatre technician Tom, 32 -Tom, or Spot as he likes to be called, broke up with his fiancée, Rachel because of his desire to dress up like a Dalmatian.
‘You disappear and start chasing puppy toys. You go so deep into the head space, you crave it and want it. It’s just magic,’ Tom explains. ‘I do theatre work, I hide in the dark, I do the sound and the lights,” says Tom. “I don’t want to be seen at work. I don’t want to be in the public eye. But in my pup life, I want to be the center of attention’.
Despite Tom’s unusual hobby, Rachel has remained friends with her former lover – although she confesses to being perplexed by his idea of fun. ‘I didn’t understand it. I didn’t want to understand it,’ she says.
