How you can support premature babies and their families

What you can do to help a struggling family.

The arrival of a baby is life-changing, bringing new meaning and joy to couples, family and friends. But it can also be a time of heartache when things don’t go to plan. Every year in Australia around 48,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN), with 27,000 of these babies born prematurely. Tragically, up to a thousand premature babies a year lose their fight for life.

For the families with babies in NICU and SCN units, every day is traumatic and fraught with worry. Without support, this overwhelming experience can have a lasting impact on families, effecting the emotional wellbeing of the entire family unit.

Extending a much-needed helping hand in neonatal units is the Miracle Babies Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2005. Working with health professionals to achieve better outcomes for families.

To support this amazing work, in time for World Prematurity Day, November 17, Tommee Tippee in partnership with Miracle Babies will be launching the Tommee Tippee Tip In. This initiative encourages Australians to Tip In and raise awareness around premature birth and its prevention, and make a donation to help support the foundation’s many programs.

It’s a great opportunity for all Aussies, whether you’re a mum, a dad, a grandparent or you just have a heart, to help support our most vulnerable little ones when they need it the most. So, get involved by donating or by holding your own Tommee Tippee Tip In by taking up a collection at your mums and bubs group, at work or among your friends.
